WHERE MY BOIIIIS AT?!
If you know me at all, you know love is my thing. Just like Ross Geller’s thing is getting divorces
MY THING IS LOVE. From day 1- okay thats a lie- more like day 2190 (I’m looking at you kindergarten crush) love has fascinated me. The butterflies, the mushy hearts- OH THE HAPPY SMILE YOU GET WHEN YOU REFLECT ON HOW SPECIAL YOUR PERSON IS RIGHT BEFORE YOU FALL ASLEEP- these are the things I live for.
You can ask any of my friends (especially Austin’s old roommates) I can and WILL meddle into your love lives… but trust me, its good meddling! After talking to enough guys, I’ve come to find that its not that they arent willing to do the sweet cute little love gestures, they just dont know what to do. Thats where I step in!
SWEET GESTURES THAT WILL MAKE YOUR GIRL’S HEART MELT
1) Flowers. ALWAYS!
You can take many different approaches to this.
-The Public Surprise: Bring flowers to her at work or school. Not only will she do the cute blush thing, she will also be able to show off to all her friends how freaking awesome you are! Guaranteed you’ll have 6 bystanders do the harmonious “AWWW”
-Bring flowers when you pick her up on a date- this is cute whether or not this is your first date or your 30th date.
-Leave flowers for her at her house. There are few things better than walking into a kitchen with a fresh bouqet of flowers sitting on the counter.
-Flowers don’t have to be expensive. Pull over while you two are driving and pick her a wild flower from the side of the road, or go on a walk and make her a homemade bouqet of the cute flowers you two find. The trick is to initiate it first. Pick the flower and say something like “You’re a wild flower, in a world of weeds. Theres no doubt about it, you were handpicked just for me” (k thats actually lyrics to one of my fav songs but still cute regardless)
2) Plan a date.. like a real date.
We’ve all been there- “What do you want to do tonight?” “I dont know, what do you want to do tonight?” BOYS, YOURE COURTING THIS GIRL, PLAN THE DATE! My favorite dates have been 2 to 3 part dates. Ex:
Dinner, cornmaze, hot chocolate.
Give your date enough time to get past the awkward shy part. You really discover you like someone once you get to know the real them! Make sure you have enough time to become comfortable with each other so that she’ll let you into her sense of humor and genuine thoughts about the world.
3) Pictures
Girls love pictures. Be the first one to ask to take a picture together! This picture was taken on our first date, Austin asked me if we could take a picture together and my heart melted. Who knew a year later we would be taking our wedding pictures in the same place!
Date idea: Tell her you’re going out somewhere nice so get all dolled up! (Ps, girls love any reason to wear thier favorite outfit and do their makeup). When you pick her up, surprise her and tell her that you actually are gonna do a photoshoot! THIS WILL MAKE HER LIFE! But make sure she’s not starving or anything right before…hanger is a real thing. Also, if you book with me between now and the end of 2017 I’ll offer you a 10% discount on a couples session! (always plug hehe)
4) Shout Outs
This one is so simple and easy! Just do a quick little post about her! She’ll never see it coming and she’ll be so happy!
5) Brag
Brag about her to anything and everyone. To your grandma, to her aunt, to the cashier at the supermarket, to the dog you see in a park. She may push you away and hide in embarassment but she secretly loves it.
6) Hold Her Hand in the Car
This one wins forever and always. When your driving just reach over and grab that cute little hand of hers! Oh and bonus points if you do the sweet little thumb stroke thing too.
7) Surprises
Never ever let your girl know about an upcoming surprise. There is nothing worse than hearing, “I have a surprise for you, but I can’t tell you what it is!” IT DRIVES US CRAZY! Unless that’s part of you boys’ evil plan; slowly drive us crazy by making us think about the surprise which makes us also constantly think about you.. ahhh genius. But for reals, surprises are great! Even if its just surprising her at work so you can take her out to lunch or stopping by the store on your way home and buying her favorite candy.
8) Notes
Post-Its work great! Sometimes Austin leaves little post it notes on my lunch and I randomly find it when I get to work. Or he hides a bunch all at once in random spots all over the house: my makeup bag, under a yogurt containter in the refrigerator, in the middle of a book- its so cute and makes me smile every time.
9) Random Acts of Service
Fill up her gas tank when you see that shes on low, check her oil, hang up her laundry, cook dinner, help her with homework, pack her lunch for her. Literally anything that will make her life easier!
10) Never Let Her Forget About How You Feel About Her
Girls love validation (omg every time I use the word “validate” I feel like I’m on the Bachelor ?… I rest my case). Aus and I have been married for 4 months now and I just asked him, “So… do you still like…like like me?” Constantly remind her why you fell for her. Tell her you love her eyes, her personality, her happiness, her smile, the freckles on her nose, her inability to wink, the little sound effects she makes when she walks around. She won’t think you’re a weirdo for noticing those things. In fact, isn’t love just a big list of those little things that other people don’t notice? When I think of Austin and all the cute things he does that most people would look past, it blows my mind that he wasn’t snatched up before we met.
Just be yourself. Any girl worth pursuing will recognize your sweet gestures. The rest is up to you!
