IIIIIIIIII DON’T WANNA BE ANYONE OTHER THAN WHAT I’VE BEEN TRYING TO BE LATELYYYYYYYYYY
(If you didn’t sing that in your head as you read that, I have two words of advice for you: 1) Get cultured and listen to some Gavin DeGraw ya weirdy, 2) YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVEN’T WATCHED ONE TREE HILL, YOU’RE MISSING OUT AND YOU’LL THANK ME AFTER BINGE WATCHING THE FIRST 3 SEASONS)
ANYWHOOO, lets talk about New Years resolutions?! Like that song, we all want to become someone who is completely happy with who they are. How does that happen? SELF IMPROVEMENT.
When I think of New Years resolutions I low-key giggle because YOU DON’T NEED A WHOLE NEW FREAKING YEAR TO START OVER! YOU ARE CAPABLE OF DOING THAT WHENEVER YOU WANT! But for the sake of this post- New year new me, right?
I tried to make list of everything I wanted to change this year, stressed myself out and then quit. GUYS! I quit my new years resolution LIST! I felt pathetic. I didn’t know where or how or what to start. Then it clicked. If its something I wanted to do, I probably wouldn’t do it.
I want to workout more
I want to take better pictures and advertise more
I want to have better relationships
I want to go back to school
ALL great intentions right? But if you’re like me, you push your “wants” on the back burner and never get to them because they’re too much money, you don’t have the time, you don’t want to hurt peoples’ feelings, etc. They’ll be like that pot of steamed broccoli your mom always makes and then they just sit on the far back burner FORGOTTEN and then they get cold and sound gross. DON’T LET YOUR RESOLUTIONS BECOME THE FORGOTTEN BROCOLLI OF YOUR LIFE! Because you know what, the broccoli is actually really good for you.
SOOOO, I knew that if I wanted to change, I had to start somewhere. These resolutions weren’t going to be WANTS. I was going to BECOME my list. It all started with this one question:
WHO DO I WANT TO BE IN 2018?
That sparked some inspiration in my soul. Who is my ideal self? How does she feel? What is she doing? Then I dug deep. What “wants” did I have that were things that were pleading within me to be something more? To be something that would help me BECOME?
You’ve all heard about SMART goals, but I’m going to remind you:
- Specific (simple, sensible, significant).
- Measurable (meaningful, motivating).
- Achievable (agreed, attainable).
- Relevant (reasonable, realistic and resourced, results-based).
- Time bound (time-based, time limited, time/cost limited, timely, time-sensitive).
So, the person I want to become has to be someone that I can actually be. The vulnerable side of me doesn’t like admitting that I need to change anything, but the truth is, everyone has something in their life that they can be better at. No one is perfect.
Use this template to form your own resolutions:
I want to be _____
To be that I need to ______
For me, I want to be a better listener. To be a better listener I need to be more present when people talk to me and genuinely engage in their conversation.
I want to be more toned. To be more toned I need to be dedicated in going to the gym ESPECIALLY on the days that I don’t want to.
I want to grow my business. To grow my business I need to spend more time on advertising.
These are just a few examples from my own life. But ultimately, the thing I REALLY want to become is so simple. HAPPY.
I’m so excited to BECOME a better version of myself in 2018. Now that I know who I want to be, that has helped me figure out a path on how to become the strong woman I know I can be. YOU can be the person you’ve always wanted to be! Now is your fresh start!
WHO WILL YOU BE IN 2018?
